Let there be light

October 9, 2007

Though we’ve been experiencing a bit of Indian Summer here in NYC we’re definitely heading toward Fall. The sun is hanging out less so the days are shorter and that means darkness – specifically in my apartment. Thank god my Design Within Reach catalog came in the mail today and I’ve been able to find some stunning antidotes to the impending winter blahs.

tom-dixon-copper-pendant-light.jpgThese copper and mirrored ball lights from Tom Dixon are fabu! I’d love to have a cluster of them over the diningmirror-ball-lamps.jpg room table or hovering over an enormous, frothy bubble bath…

spun-t1-table-lamp.jpg I also adore this table lamp from Sebastian Wrong for Flos (also available in white). Not that I have the surface space for anything else in my life. So sad. What I do have is innumerable heirlooms that I suppose are special in terms of family history, but not exactly my taste – you agree? Yeah, believe me, I know. But fear not, that Holly Hobby relic is in the minority in terms of my furnishings and relegated to a hidden corner of my apartment.

Oh, by the way, that’s the Cellula chandelier at the top, by Nunzia Carbone & Tiziano Vudafieri – stunning!

Acid Wash? Really?

October 9, 2007

sevenacidwash.jpgStrolling around the internet recently I’ve noticed an odd, slightly unsettling new (actually old) trend: acid washed jeans. They’re coming back? Seriously? I love fashion as much as the next girl but I just don’t understand why the fashion gods insist on bringing certain things back. I thought we were all agreed that acid wash was a mistake the first time, so why do it to us again? Seven, Corpus and Urban Outfitters, among others, havecorpusskinny-jean.jpg all reintroduced this blast from the past but I have serious doubts about it being a popular trend this time around. I guess they really aren’t any worse than those dirty jeans from a few years ago. You know, the ones that made it look like you’d sat in a pool of mustard or chocolate or something. And the whiskering on the front pocket trend, was that supposed to be flattering? It wasn’t. What do you think they’ll do next?

Fat for a day

October 8, 2007

With a little help from my trusty DVR (man, I love that thing, how did we ever live without them?) I’m finally getting around to watching the premier episodes of the Fall TV season. As I wade through I’m sure I’ll have more to say, but last night the two I watched had a similarity I just couldn’t help but point out…

It seems the fabulously snarky Becki Newton of Ugly Betty and Jane Krakowskiamanda_uglybetty.JPG of 30 Rock both gained fat suits over the summer – ahh, fat people are just so funny. I wish I could say my summer padding was courtesy of a fat suit but sadly mine is the real thing and will have to be removed by countless hours on the elliptical machine, not a quick trip to the wardrobe trailer. Sigh, we’re still doing fat jokes? Seriously? Oh well, I’m sure I’m in the minority here so I’ll pipe down. I must say, however, though I didn’t think 30 Rock was as funny as people keep telling me, I loved the idea of Mystic Pizza the Musical!

New shows I am liking but didn’t expect to: Dirty Sexy Money, Gossip Girl and Chuck. Though I do enjoy looking at cute boys, I couldn’t even watch an entire episode of Big Shots and Private Practice is no Grey’s, sorry.

OK, will report back after I watch the rest…

Shine On

October 7, 2007

mcqueen-elvie.jpgI am so into this bag! It’s very Darth Vader-S&M don’t you think? Oooh, that actually sounds kinda creepy and geeky, but you get the idea. Anyway, it’s called the Elvie, it’s the handiwork of the fabulous Alexander McQueen. I love the structure and the hardware, it would so make my regular jeans and t-shirt kick ass!

This time of year really makes me want to buy a new bag (oh, who am I kidding I always want a new bag). I don’t often think ofYSL Tribute, quilted croc myself as a patent girl, but for some reason I seem to be digging the shiny this year. It just feels so crisp and polished, chic and sophisticated. I’m also in love with this YSL Tribute bag: gorgeous clean lines and the croc quilting is divine.

Lastly I’ll toss out the requisite MJ bag, this one’s the Christina. I’ve loved Marc Jacobs for ages, sometimes he hits it out of the park, other times it’s hard to imagine what was going on in that head of mj-christina.jpghis (oh, I guess we all know that by now). At any rate, I like the more refined quilting he’s got going on these days, a modern homage to the classic Chanel.

Oh, so many bags, so little money…and don’t even get me started on the Balenciagas, drool!!!

PS Kiss

October 1, 2007

PS KissThough a little slow to the show, I finally pre-ordered my tube of PS Kiss lipstick from Lancome today. Though I’m a totally beauty junkie, I don’t think I’ve ever actually pre-ordered before (hence the occasional frantic search for a new Dior lip gloss or Nars polish) so clearly I’ve entered a new realm of junkiedom. I don’t even know if it’s going to look good on me, but it looks similar to many of the red lipsticks I already own, so I bet I’m safe. Anyway, it’s supposed to arrive this week, can’t wait!

Welcome to Stiletto Secrets!

I’m just a simple girl with a passion for fashion and not enough closet space – I’m sure you can relate. I love shoes (hence the blog title) but I’m not one of those people that wants to wear images of them on my clothes or collect tchotchkes, though that does seem to be a default gift for those of us with this passion, doesn’t it? I can’t tell you how many ceramic, glass or wooden miniature shoes I’ve gotten over the years but I can tell you this: I’m already a pack-rat, I don’t need any help, so enough with the crap!

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll have much more to say on this subject, but for now welcome to the blog, you’re secrets are safe with me…
